2 Tier Tray Decorating Ideas

This tiered tray post contains affiliate links.

Last year, I decorated a vintage coffee themed tiered tray in my kitchen and I loved putting it together so much that I was inspired to update it with the seasons.  Decorating it is now one of my favorite parts of my holiday decor and I thought it might be fun to find some seasonal and holiday tiered tray ideas for the whole year!  And to make it really easy, I've even included links to similar items shown so you can quickly design your own trays for every season!

How to Decorate a Tiered Tray

Start with finding a tiered tray that's fairly neutral and will work well with any holiday {I've linked below to a number of different trays that I love}.  Tiered trays aren't cheap but they're worth investing in if you love changing up your holiday decor.  I would recommend buying a tray that has edges to the layers because they make it a lot easier to fill without worrying about items sliding off.

The thing I love about decorating tiered trays is you can shop your home and repurpose household items into the theme you want.

You can set up a cute decorative tray without spending a cent.  Sift through tea towels, cloth napkins, paper straws, holiday boxes, books with colorful spines, leftover party decor, and kitchen items for things to decorate with.

Don't forget natural elements.  Leaves, acorns, pinecones, and other items you can gather outside all make great fillers.

If you have any Rae Dunn style items, you're really in luck … they lend themselves perfectly to tray decorating!

And if you don't have items that suit the holiday you're decorating for, grab items that fit the color theme instead: green vases and candles for St. Patrick's Day or black and orange napkins for Halloween.

January Tiered Tray Decor

This New Year's Eve themed tiered tray with black, white, and metallics is such a cute way to ring in the new year.  I love that it even includes party hats, noisemakers, and bottles of sparkling cider!

When New Year's Eve is over, transform your decor with a winter tiered tray.  Grab white decor, make a few snowflakes, add some puffy pom pom snowballs, and throw in a seasonal sign.

Hot cocoa is a winter necessity and a hot cocoa themed tiered tray is both cute and practical.  Fill it with everything you need to whip up a mug full of hot chocolate and add in a few vintage decorative touches to finish it off.

Vintage elements are always so cute and they look adorable in this vintage style Valentine's Day tiered tray.  Add a little greenery and some dried roses and the tray is complete.

March Tiered Tray Decor

St. Patrick's Day is often overlooked but this lucky green St. Patrick's Day tiered tray is the perfect way to add a holiday touch to your home.  All you need are some green elements, some glitter, shamrocks, and maybe a leprechaun or two {wink}.

April Tiered Tray Decor

An Easter themed tiered tray, with pastel shades, ceramic bunnies, and tulips {fresh or faux} is the perfect way to add a little color to the kitchen.  The decorative grasses add the perfect bit of color.

I love the fresh greenery used in this spring tiered tray.  Combined with the cute sign, mugs, and pots, it's the perfect spring decor.

May Tiered Tray Decor

I never decorate for Mother's Day but this year I'm definitely adding some cute touches to a tiered tray.  This Mother's Day tiered tray is so simple but super cute and it has just the right amount of mom touches.  How adorable is that bird house?

June Tiered Tray Decor

If you're decorating for Mother's Day, you may want to decorate for Father's Day too and I'm so smitten with this Father's Day tiered tray.  I love the beard and mustache additions and the masculine decor that was added.  And, like many of the other trays, a little pop of greenery is the perfect way to finish it off.

The beach is my favorite place to hang out in the summer months so a beach themed tiered tray is the perfect coastal style summer decor.  Grab some shells or other holiday souvenirs, add some raffia and natural items, and pop in a cute beach sign.  Any coastal colors would be a great addition to this tray.

Summer is grill time and this grilling themed tiered tray is not only a cute home decoration but it would also make a really fun centerpiece for a summer party.  Combine all the gingham, some picnic themed items, and anything grilling related to recreate this idea.

July Tiered Tray Decor

The fourth of July is the perfect time to try your hand at decorating a tiered tray.  Even if you don't have a lot of American-themed items, you can create a patriotic tiered tray by combining items you have that are red, white, and blue.  Add some flags and paper straws as fillers and you'll have a super cute way to celebrate Independence Day.

Like the grilling idea above, summer and watermelon go hand in hand.  A watermelon tiered tray is a cute and colorful way to decorate.  I love the watermelon-carrying ants on this tray and I also love that the tray and accessories are mostly basic white with a few watermelon elements added in.  Look around the kitchen to see what you can use for a simple summer tray.

August Tiered Tray Decor

Summer isn't summer without s'mores, right?  A s'mores inspired tiered tray is such a fun and whimsical idea, and in addition to the crafty elements used in this tray, you can also add real food, throwing in some chocolate bars and graham crackers and different-sized marshmallows.

The primary colors of back to school are fun and festive for decorating and since school supplies are so cheap during the summer months, a back to school tiered tray can be really inexpensive to make.  Use bright colors, toss in a chalkboard, add a bunch of school supplies, and fill in the spaces with bright red apples.

September Tiered Tray Decor

Fall is a great time for apple picking and this apple themed tiered tray has me dreaming of orchards.  The items used in this tray are mostly kitchen dishes with a few fun, red accessories added in.  And apples … don't forget the apples!

When apple season is over, switch out the apples for pumpkins and set up a fall tiered tray.  The buffalo check pumpkins in this tray add the perfect pop of color against the orange and white.  And how cute is that little owl peeping out from his pot?

October Tiered Tray Decor

The pumpkins and owl can be repurposed to create an orange and black Halloween tiered tray.  Add some glitter, Halloween themed plates {melamine or paper}, vintage style candy sticks, coordinating paper straws and cups, and any other small Halloween items you have in your holiday boxes.

November Tiered Tray Decor

When November rolls around, it's time for a Thanksgiving tiered tray.  Pumpkins, leaves, and Thanksgiving themed dishes and signs are all that's needed to create this cute display.

December Tiered Tray Decor

December is the perfect time to set up a farmhouse style Christmas themed tiered tray and any other style of Christmas tray.  Use those extra ornaments to fill spaces, add holiday themed napkins and dishes, and hit up the dollar store for small decorations that can be used as is or spray painted to match your other decor.
